How to communicate you’re open during the pandemic

There’s a reason automotive shops are considered essential business. They keep important vehicles on the road. It’s difficult to know what businesses are open, what hours they have, and what their options are to keep a safe distance during this time.

But, you’re in luck. There are easy ways to communicate with your customers, thanks to technology.

Here are five communication channels you can use to let people know you’re open:

1. Facebook/Social Media

A simple post saying that you’re open and ready to serve your customers goes a long way. Update the hours posted on your channels and create posts verifying that you’re ready to assist however you can.

As the circumstances surrounding local quarantine regulations seem to change on a daily basis, it would be good to post your open status more than once. Be sure to keep an eye on your direct messages as customers may be trying to reach out this way.

2. Google My Business

Update your hours. Even if it’s just temporary. You can update your Google My Business page hours by going to the Info tab when you sign in. Consider creating a post for your page that explains you’re open and the measures you’re taking to ensure customer safety.

Good news for businesses: Google has suspended reviews during this time in hopes of reducing negative reviews that could result from these tough times. You can learn more about Google My Business guidelines for COVID-19 here

3. Email

This can be a very simple email communication stating you’re open, whether or not you have amended hours, and any alternative services or safety measures you’re taking. For example, one shop emailed that they are offering a no-touch pick-up/drop-off service. Offer a direct email or phone number where your customers can contact you in case they have any questions.

4. Phone

Call or text your customers to share this information in a convenient and direct manner. Feel free to include any pertinent or personalized information during this communication, too. If you know they’re close to their service interval, remind them of that and offer a time when they can bring it in for servicing.

5. Chamber of Commerce

Contact your Chamber of Commerce or local government resource to ensure all your shop information is up to date on their page, as well.

By using a few of these free communication channels, you can help reassure your customers you’re here to assist them during this trying time.

Remember, we’re stronger together.
