IMPORTANT! Read product Safety Data Sheet before use. Make sure the BG Power Steering Service Center service hoses cannot get entangled with moving parts of the engine such as belts and fans. This service involves fluids that are hot and may splash. Always wear protective gloves and side shield safety glasses while performing this service. Clean up any spills quickly to prevent slippery spots and possible fire hazards on the vehicle. The internal air regulator on this device is set at the factory—do not attempt to adjust. Call your BG representative for service.
Set Up for Service
- Place full container of BG power steering fluid into holder on side of the BG Power Steering Service Center. Remove cap and seal.
- Place drain hose into used fluid container in bottom of cart.
- Close air valve (turn valve knob perpendicular to hose) on control block and connect air source to unit.
- Place can of BG Quick Clean for Power Steering, PN 108, into pocket in the top of the BG Power Steering Service Center and open the can. Lift the U-tube and rotate it into position over the can. Allow the tube to descend to the bottom of the can.
- Remove cap from vehicle power steering fluid reservoir and insert metal wand assembly to the bottom of the reservoir.
If using nylon wands instead of metal wand assembly: Attach long nylon wand to the C3 connector on the control block (C). Remove cap from vehicle power steering fluid reservoir and insert wand. Wand must be long enough to reach the bottom of the reservoir. Use as large a diameter as possible and cut as short as feasible. Use adaptors for smaller tubing. Attach short nylon wand to C4 connector on the control block (C). Insert wand into vehicle power steering fluid reservoir. Adjust length of wand to reach the inside of the reservoir without touching the fluid level. BG Power Steering Service Center will remove old fluid from the bottom and put new fluid in at the top.
Adding BG Quick Clean for Power Steering
- Set lever of the control block (C) in the middle of its range.
- Open air valve (turn valve knob parallel to hose) on control block (C) to begin exchanging the BG Quick Clean for Power Steering. Adjust reservoir level by pushing the lever forward (–) to lower or back (+) to raise level.
- Close air valve (turn valve knob perpendicular to hose) on control block (C) when BG Quick Clean for Power Steering can is empty.
- Remove wands from vehicle power steering fluid reservoir and replace cap.
- Run engine for 15 minutes.
- Cycle steering wheel from stop to stop several times while the engine is running to clean all components.
Fluid Exchange
- Plan on turning the steering wheel stop to stop 3–4 times during the exchange to help remove all old fluid. Caution: Do not allow the pump to growl continuously—heat generated from this condition can damage the vehicle and the BG Power Steering Service Center.
- Lift U-tube from BG Quick Clean for Power Steering can and rotate tube into container of BG power steering fluid.
- Remove cap from vehicle power steering fluid reservoir and insert wands.
- Open air valve (turn valve knob parallel to hose) on control block (C) to begin exchange.
- Adjust control block (C) lever for proper fluid level. If the exchange is faster than the normal flow of fluid through the reservoir, it can be slowed by turning the air valve toward the closed position.
- Close air valve (turn valve knob perpendicular to hose) on control block (C) just before the BG power steering fluid container is empty. Use remaining fluid to top off the system as required.
- Remove wands from vehicle power steering fluid reservoir and replace cap. Insert wands into the BG Power Steering Service Center funnel until the next service.
Emptying Used Fluid Container
Remove BG Quick Clean for Power Steering can and insert end of U-tube several inches into tube in the bottom of can holder. Place outlet wand of control block (C) into suitable waste container, push lever on control block (C) all the way to “+” position and open air valve (turn valve knob parallel to hose) on control block (C). Note: Keep inlet wand above fluid level to prevent used fluid from cycling back to waste container.
