IMPORTANT! Use the BG Performance Oil Changer in conjunction with an engine oil change that includes an oil filter change.
WARNING! DO NOT AIR PURGE DIESEL ENGINES! This may remove oil from hydraulic injectors that may NOT be replaced during relubrication step.
- Add appropriate amount of BG EPR® Engine Performance Restoration,® PN 109, to vehicle crankcase. Run engine at normal operating temperature for 5–10 minutes at 1200 RPM. Shut off engine.
- Remove the BG Performance Oil Changer fill cap and pour in an appropriate amount of BG Extended Life MOA,® PN 115, and one quart/Liter of the same engine oil that will be used to refill the vehicle crankcase. For larger capacity light duty diesel engines: Use appropriate amount of BG DOC,® PN 112, and fill the tool with appropriate engine oil.
- Replace the fill cap securely.
- Close the BG Performance Oil Changer air hose valve. Connect shop air to the BG Performance Oil Changer air hose.
- Remove drain plug from the vehicle’s oil pan and allow used oil to drain from the engine until the flow is reduced to a drip. Do not replace the drain plug at this time.
- Remove the oil filter from the engine and attach the appropriate oil port adaptor to the pipe onto which the oil filter threads. In cases where the filter is a drop-in cartridge type, use the oil purge probe instead.
- Connect the service hose from the BG Performance Oil Changer to the the oil port adaptor or the oil purge probe and set control valve to “Air.” For diesel engines: Set control valve to “Oil.”
-
Open BG Performance Oil Changer air hose valve and set regulator to 30 PSI to purge the remaining used oil from the engine. Air or oil will be forced through the engine galleys and used oil will start to flow from the oil drain port. If oil begins to flow out of vehicles filter bypass port, attach one of the oil purge plates to the oil port adaptor.
If you are using the oil purge probe, press it tightly against the oil port and slowly open the BG Performance Oil Changer air hose valve to prevent the spraying of oil.
-
When the used oil stops flowing, close the BG Performance Oil Changer air hose valve and replace the oil drain plug.
For diesel engines: Allow oil to flow until the canister is empty and the float valve has closed. Replace the oil drain plug and skip step 10.
- Turn control valve on the BG Performance Oil Changer to “Oil” and open the BG Performance Oil Changer air hose valve. If using the oil purge probe, press the probe tightly against the oil port and slowly open the BG Performance Oil Changer air hose valve. The oil in the BG Performance Oil Changer canister will flow into the engine and through the areas where the trapped oil had been. Allow oil to flow until the canister is empty and the float valve has closed, shutting off oil flow.
- Close valve on BG Performance Oil Changer air hose. Push pressure release button to release pressure. Remove adaptors.
-
Install new oil filter and add engine oil to normal capacity. Recheck oil level after running the engine for a few minutes. Top off as necessary to reach full mark on the dipstick.
Procedure for lubricating new or rebuilt engines for the first time
The hook up of the BG Performance Oil Changer to the engine is the same except that the air purge process is not necessary since the engine is already “dry.” When hook up is complete, turn control valve on the BG Performance Oil Changer to “Oil.” If using the oil purge probe to connect to the engine, press the probe tightly against the oil port and slowly open the valve on the air line. It may be desirable to install more oil in this fashion since the newly assembled engine will be devoid of lubricant.
