IMPORTANT! Read product Safety Data Sheet before use.
- Carefully read these operating instructions before beginning vehicle service.
- Before handling any BG product, read its Safety Data Sheet.
- A combination of mechanical and local ventilation should be used to prevent operator exposure to noxious fumes.
- Keep all hoses and tools away from moving engine parts.
- Check all lines and adaptors for cracks and leaks before and after service.
- Use EXTREME CAUTION when removing radiator cap to prevent being burned by hot fluid escaping from the cooling system. Use EXTREME CAUTION when handling hoses and adaptors on BG cooling system service machine as they can reach the same temperature as coolant.
- DO NOT dispose of any cooling system fluids or filters in a manner that is not in compliance with federal, state or local environmental regulations.
The BG Expansion Tank Cooling System Hose Set is designed for use with a BG cooling system service machine to perform a BG Cooling System Service on systems with external expansion tanks, also referred to as degas bottles, surge tanks or overflow tanks depending on the manufacturer. These systems are easy to identify because the radiator cap is located on the expansion tank instead of the radiator. The purposes of this type of system are to provide a location for fill, provide an air space in the cooling system that allows the coolant to expand and contract, provide air separation during operation, and provide a central air bleed location and replenish the engine coolant to the system.
This set is designed to be used on vehicles with at least one open end hose coming off the expansion tank. If the tank is equipped with more than one hose on the side of the tank, perform half the service through one and half through the other.
- Carefully remove the cap from the expansion tank and add BG Universal Cooling System Cleaner PN 540.
- Replace the cap, start the engine and allow the vehicle to run for 15 minutes.
- Turn engine off and carefully remove the cap from the expansion tank to relieve cooling system pressure.
- Lower the coolant level in the expansion tank below the level of the hose coming off the side of the tank.
- Re-install the OEM cap onto the expansion tank.
- Remove the hose from the side of the expansion tank.
- Connect the appropriate size BG hose to the tank. Secure with a supplied worm gear hose clamp.
- Connect the appropriate size BG barbed adaptor to the vehicle hose. Secure with a supplied worm gear hose clamp.
- Connect both BG cooling system service machine hoses to the BG adaptors that were installed on the vehicle.
- Connect the BG cooling system service machine power leads to a battery.
- Turn the V1 ball valve directly between “U” and “N.”
- Turn S1 switch to “ADD.”
- Slowly turn the V1 ball valve toward “N.”
- When used coolant starts to flow to the BG cooling system service machine, leave the V1 ball valve in this position.
Notes: If flow is not established or if the machine clicks off, then turn the S1 switch to “OFF,” swap the service hose connections and start back at Step 11. If the vehicle has more than one hose off the side of the tank, pinch off the other hose during service with the supplied pliers. - When the service is complete, turn the S1 switch to “OFF” and disconnect the BG cooling system machine service hoses.
- Carefully remove the cap from the expansion tank to relieve cooling system pressure.
- Lower the coolant level in the expansion tank below the level of the hose coming off the side of the tank.
- Remove BG adaptors and re-install the OEM hose and clamp to the tank.
- Add BG Universal Super Cool,® PN 546, to the tank and top off the system with new coolant.
- Re-install the OEM cap, start the vehicle and check for any system leaks.
