BG Dual View VIA®
PN E101-1912
INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT! Read product Safety Data Sheet before use.
Caution: Do not run the Air Intake Cleaning and Fuel Injection Cleaning services at the same time. This can cause the engine to hydrolock.
Air Intake Cleaning
using BG Air Intake System Cleaning Tool (Ultra-fine Nozzle), PN 9209
- Add BG Platinum® 44K® to fuel tank.
- Loosen retainer clamp and remove the end of air intake boot from the throttle body.
- Position the spray nozzle in front of the throttle plate. The nozzle should be aimed at the center of the throttle plate, but not touching it.
- Fill the BG VIA® supply tool with BG Air Intake & Valve Cleaner, PN 260, or BG Air Intake System Cleaner, PN 206. Back out the air pressure regulator and connect to shop air.
CAUTION! These BG cleaners will damage paint and certain plastic materials. - Attach BG VIA® supply tool hose to BG Air Intake System Cleaning Tool.
- Start vehicle and allow engine to warm up to operating temperature. With engine running at idle speed, adjust air pressure on supply tool to approximately 60 PSI. It may be necessary to unplug the MAF sensor for runnability.
- If the vehicle will not run, it may be necessary to attach the S-shaped spray nozzle to the air intake boot and reinstall on vehicle.
- Open ball valve on supply hose. IMPORTANT! While performing the service, quickly snap the throttle to rev the engine to 3,500 RPM three times every 45 seconds to clear any accumulation of BG cleaner.
- When supply tool is empty, close ball valve on supply hose. IMPORTANT! After the service, let engine idle for 15 minutes to allow residual BG cleaner to evaporate.
- Turn off engine. Remove the BG Air Intake System Cleaning Tool from the air intake boot.
- Reinstall air intake boot and start engine. Check for leaks around boot.
- Test drive the vehicle and clear any DTCs that may have been set.
Servicing Turbocharged Engines
To perform the service on a vehicle with a turbocharged engine, install the BG Air Intake System Cleaning Tool between the turbo and the throttle body. To do so, remove the air intake hose between the turbo and the throttle body.
Do not spray BG cleaner through the turbo! The turbo has oil seals that may dry out or damage easily. If the seals are damaged, oil can leak into the air intake system. Also, some turbos have a coating on the internal components that the BG cleaner may remove.
These services should NOT be performed on supercharged engines!
Tool Maintenance
The BG Air Intake System Cleaning Tool contains a filter element which is located in the spray head. It can be removed and cleaned with any solvent.
The BG VIA® supply tool also contains a filter element in the bottom of the canister body that can be removed and cleaned with any solvent.
Fuel Injection Cleaning on GDI and Systems
Without Fuel Return Line
- Start engine and bring to operating temperature. Shut off engine.
- Verify that there is no air pressure in the BG VIA® (gauge reads 0 PSI).
- With the ball valve in the OFF position (perpendicular to the line), remove the fill cap on the top of BG VIA® and fill with BG fuel injection cleaner. Replace fill cap, hand tighten.
- Attach air supply.
- Locate and disconnect the fuel feed line from the vehicle.
- Connect BG VIA® to engine side of fuel system with appropriate adaptor. IMPORTANT! Only connect BG VIA® to the low pressure side on GDI engines!
- Block off flow from fuel tank side of fuel system by using appropriate adaptor capped off or by disabling the fuel pump.
- Pressurize BG VIA® by setting air regulator to vehicle-required fuel pressure.
- Open ball valve on BG VIA® and start engine. Make sure all electrical loads are turned off (A/C, blower fan, headlights, etc.).
- Allow engine to run at idle speed until cleaner in BG VIA® is used up and the engine starts to stumble or stalls.
- Remove the air supply from BG VIA®. Press and hold pressure release button on side of BG VIA® until gauge reads 0 PSI.
- Close ball valve and remove BG VIA® and adaptors from engine.
- Reconnect fuel feed line, cycle the ignition on and off several times to prime the fuel system.
- Start engine. Clear any codes that may have set. Road test vehicle.
Fuel Injection Cleaning on Systems
With Fuel Return Line
- Start engine and bring to operating temperature. Shut off engine.
- Remove fuel cap.
- Disable fuel pump. On some systems, the pump must be unplugged at the tank. Removing the fuel pump fuse may disable the ignition system.
- With ball valve in the OFF position (perpendicular to the hose), remove fill cap on the top of BG VIA® and fill with BG fuel injection cleaner. Replace fill cap, hand tighten.
- Attach BG VIA® supply hose to test port. On systems without test port, remove fuel line on inlet side of fuel rail and attach hose using compatible adaptor.
- Close off return fuel line with hose pliers or plug line if it cannot be clamped.
- Adjust air regulator to pressurize BG VIA® to approximately 40 PSI.
- Open ball valve and start engine. If engine stumbles after starting, do not tap the throttle! Adjust air regulator to achieve best idle.
- Allow engine to run at idle speed until cleaner in BG VIA® is used up and the engine starts to stumble or stalls.
- Remove hose pliers from return fuel line or remove plug, if used.
- Close ball valve and remove supply hose from fuel rail. CAUTION! Fuel rail may still be under pressure.
- Reconnect inlet fuel line and activate fuel pump.
- Replace cap on fuel tank.
- Start engine. Clear any codes that may have set. Road test vehicle.
